The Twentieth Century: Growth, Challenges, and Affirmation of Catanzaro

Contenuto dell'articolo

In the first half of the 20th century, Catanzaro consolidated its role as a political and administrative center, developing economically thanks to a growing middle class and an expansion of tertiary services.

The 1920s saw a new vitality in agricultural activities and in the trade of foodstuffs, with increasingly intense exchanges both at national and international levels.
Despite the serious damage suffered during the bombings of the Second World War, the city's population has more than doubled in the last forty years, testifying to the city's ability to regenerate and grow.
A crucial moment in Catanzaro's modern history came in 1971 with the establishment of regional bodies: the city officially became the capital of the Calabria Region, confirming an ancient and consolidated vocation.
Always a point of reference and the hub of the Calabrian peninsula, Catanzaro thus reaffirmed its role as a capital, with a future of administration and development as a protagonist.
