Descrizione attrazione
At the Local Police Headquarters in via Daniele, a national record of extraordinary value is kept: the first historical Museum of the Italian Local Police. A unique institution that tells over 150 years of urban history through the eyes of those who have daily watched over the safety and order of the city.
An Italian Record
Catanzaro has written an important page in Italian museum history, becoming the first city to dedicate a permanent space to the memory and valorization of the local Police force. This museum represents not only a tribute to the men and women who have served the community but also a precious archive of the urban and social transformation of the capital of Calabria.
The Heroes of Memory: The Fera Family
Behind this extraordinary achievement is a story of dedication and love for one's profession. Aldo Fera, a retired traffic officer, together with his wife Franca, has dedicated years of their lives to preserve, catalog, and safeguard all the historical material of the Headquarters. Their tireless passion has transformed what could have been just a forgotten archive into a cultural heritage of immeasurable value.
Thanks to their voluntary commitment and far-sighted vision, documents, photographs, uniforms, and equipment that were at risk of being lost have become precious testimonies of a history spanning over a century and a half.
A Journey from 1872 to Today
The exhibition path guides visitors through 150 years of urban history, from 1872 to the present day, narrating the evolution of the local Police force in parallel with the changes in the city and Italian society.
The Uniforms: Mirror of the Times
The collection of historical uniforms represents one of the most fascinating aspects of the museum. Each uniform tells a different era: from the early 19th-century bodices to modern technological uniforms, passing through the transformations of the 20th century that accompanied the great social and political changes in the country.
By observing the evolution of uniforms, one can read the history of Italy: changes in regimes, technological innovations, the evolution of taste and design, but above all, the progressive recognition of the social and professional role of traffic officers.
Vintage Motorcycles: Elegance on Two Wheels
A special section is dedicated to vintage motorcycles used by the force over the decades. These perfectly preserved vehicles testify to the evolution of urban mobility and technologies applied to territorial control. From the first motorcycles of the 1950s to the most recent models, each vehicle tells a story of innovation and adaptation to the needs of the growing city.
The Documentary Archive: Bureaucracy Becoming History
The museum houses a photographic archive of extraordinary richness and a collection of ordinances documenting the evolution of urban regulations. ...
